Beef Canoes

1 lb loaf unsliced Vienna bread
1 lb ground beef
1   egg, beaten
1-1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1 tbsp brown sugar
3 tbsp pickle relish
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp mustard
1/2 tsp horseradish
1 tbsp minced onion
6   beef frankfurters
    cheese strips
    olive rings

Cut the bread into halves lengthwise and scoop out the center of each half, leaving 3/4” shells.  Break bread into small pieces and mix with the ground beef, egg, salt, and pepper.  Combine 3 Tbsp catsup with remaining ingredients except frankfurters, cheese strips, and olive rings. 

Cut frankfurters in half lengthwise and place in loaf cavities.  Press beef mixture over the frankfurters.  Wrap each loaf in foil with double-fold on top, then seal.  Place, beef side down, on grill over coals and puncture foil.  Cook for 50 minutes.  Open foil and arrange cheese strips and olive rings on top.  Drizzle with catsup.  Cook for 5 minutes longer to melt cheese.  Slice into 1-1/2” pieces.
